π Our Privacy Commitment
TL;DR: DeviceRec does NOT collect, transmit, or store any of your data. All
recordings stay 100% on your device.
DeviceRec is built with privacy as its core principle. Unlike other screen recording tools, we don't
require accounts, don't use cloud storage, and don't track your usage.
π Data Collection
What We DON'T Collect
- Video recordings (they never leave your device)
- Audio from your microphone
- Screen content or browsing history
- Personal information or identifiers
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- IP addresses or location data
What We DO Store (Locally Only)
- Recording preferences: Your settings (like microphone toggle, zoom preference) are
stored locally in Chrome's storage
- License key: If you purchase Pro, your license key is stored locally to verify your
Pro status
All data stored uses Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API, which syncs across your
Chrome browsers if you're signed inβbut this data never goes to DeviceRec servers.
π Permissions Explained
DeviceRec requests certain browser permissions to function. Here's exactly why:
- tabCapture: Required to capture the contents of your browser tab for recording
- offscreen: Needed to process video in the background while you work
- downloads: Allows saving your recordings directly to your computer
- storage: Stores your preferences locally
- activeTab: Enables the auto-zoom click tracking feature on the current page
- notifications: Notifies you when a recording is saved
We request only the minimum permissions needed and never use them for tracking or data collection.
π Third-Party Services
The only external service DeviceRec connects to is LemonSqueezy (our payment processor)
when you:
- Click the "Purchase" button (opens their checkout page)
- Validate a license key (optional API call)
LemonSqueezy has its own privacy
policy. DeviceRec never receives or stores your payment information.
βοΈ Your Rights
Since we don't collect any personal data, there's nothing to request access to or delete. However, you
can:
- Clear all local extension data via Chrome's extension settings
- Uninstall the extension at any time
